Further and Rarer

Dungeon Guide

The main gameplay of Further and Rarer happens in the dungeon. You can find the dungeon in the west part of town. Enter into it to fight monsters, collect treasure and see how deep you can go.
The dungeon is bottomless so no reasonable adventurer would set their goal to be to reach the bottom, but the farther you go into the dungeon, the more perilous and the greater the treasure so there is pride in reaching depths beyond what others have reached.

To get deeper into the dungeon, reach the stairs and then press A to decend.

If there are enemies in your way, you can avoid them, cast spells on them or, when standing next to them, press the dpad in their direction to trade blows with them to get past.

If you find a chest, it probably contains some treasure. Press A while standing on the chest to open it and take what is inside. You can hold unlimited potions and Coin, but all other items must fit in your backpack which can only hold ten items.

Every ten floors will contain no monsters and a portal back to town. You can also use this portal to go back and repeat the last ten floors. After these floors, enemies get significantly harder and it is recommended you use the portals several times until you have grown in strength enough for the next ten floors. It is up to you, of course, but remember that the unknown can be deadly.

There are a few NPCs that will show up randomly in the dungeon. Stand next to them, face their direction and press A to interact with them. They each have their own little benefit they can offer you.

Some enemies, mostly goblins, will drop Coin when they are defeated. Stand where they died and press A to pick up the Coin. Some enemies are bosses, who have a lot more HP than other enemies and they hold a key. The stairs down to the next floor will be locked when there is a boss on the floor. Defeat the boss, stand on the key they drop when defeated and then press the A button to collect the key to open up the stairs out of that floor.

When you enter the dungeon from the town, you start at the very first floor of the dungeon. This floor has a special portal to exit right away if you need it. If you continue to the second floor, you will not be able to leave the dungeon until the tenth floor so be careful. There is an exception though: you can purchase Return scrolls in the bazaar. When you cast a Return scroll in the town, it will bring you to a specific floor of the dungeon (which you can see in that scroll's description.) You can use this to skip over parts of the dungeon you have already mastered. The bazaar only sells Return scrolls for floor 1 and floor 11 to start with, but once you reach deeper floors, they will start to sell scrolls that match the depth you've reached. You can also use Return scrolls to leave the dungeon. If you cast a Return scroll while in the dungeon, it will take you back to the town. Reading a Return scroll will not immediately take you anywhere though: it can take up to twenty turns for the effect to happen so be patient. This also means you probably cannot rely on a Return scroll to get you out of serious danger.
