Further and Rarer

Town Guide

The town in Further and Rarer is across nine screens. Here you can see information about each area.

Pasture

You start each run in the southwest of town in a little pasture. You can return here if you ever want to suspend a run.

Library

Just north of the pasture, is a library that has lots of information about the game along with a book to view the Murtree.

Donate the coin you find in the dungeon to the librarian here. Any coin you donate is kept between runs so it is a great way to progress.

As you donate coin to the library, you will be allowed to fill out the Murtree. The Murtree has a varity of improvments to your character. Hover over each one to see what you can get. Each node on the tree has an improvment that matches a nearby node. If you fill in two nodes with matching effects, you get that effect as a permanent upgrade.

Nodes on the ends of branches or ends of roots unlock special nodes that you can select multiple times. Each point you put into one of these special nodes grants its effect. You can also freely take points out of these nodes (unlike the main nodes on the tree.) These nodes are also reset each time your character dies, but the amount of donation you have remains so you can select them again on your next run.

If you really do want to undo the main nodes of the tree, there is an option to do that, but it significantly lowers the amount you have donated so you will have to re-earn a lot of your nodes.

Docks

In the northwest part of town, you will find the docks, but they are closed due to the evil aura that has covered the land: the seas are too dangerous to travel on.

Temple

In the north part of town, between the docks and the forge, you will find the Temple where you can learn about magic.

The back of the Temple, you can give equipment away to increase your standing with them. Your standing with the Temple is permanent and will only affect future runs.

Also in the back of the Temple is someone who can remove cursed items from you. A few items you can find will be unremovable by normal means, but here, they can force the item off for you.

If you have magic, you will be allowed into the east wing of the Temple. Someone here can refill your mana, and someone else can offer you a path to upgrading your spells' damage. See the section on relics to learn more about that.

Town Center

At the center of town you will see the town's namesake, the Giant's Well.

Everyone around the well in the center of town has little quests for you to complete. Each quest you complete gives a reward you can access in the south of town. These rewards are permanent so you can access them in future runs as well.

Who is near the well is a bit random and different people will show up at different times. This area resets each time you start a new run or leave town after a real-world hour has passed.

Town Gate

In the south of town, west of the pasture, is the town gate where you can visit a few extra places around town.

Someone here will take your coin to deforest. It seems like a bad thing, but in this game, it will make the forest area shorter. The more coin you donate, the faster you can complete the forest. See the section on relics to learn more about that.

If you exit out the gate, you can visit all the locations that have been unlocked through quests. They will be organized into either rewards or vendors. Rewards are one-time benefits you can get per run. Vendors offer a varity of upgrades.

You can end your run in the gate menu as well by leaving town. If you leave and return, and a real-world hour has passed, the people around the well will reset.

Bazaar

In the southeast corner of town, there is a varity of shops.

One shop here sells potions and return scrolls. Return scrolls can be used to teleport out of the dungeon or teleport into the dungeon. The higher level return scrolls will teleport you farther into the dungeon (but they only sell scrolls that will bring you to floors you've seen in this run.)

One shops here will take the items you no longer want. They will give you an amulet if you do. Donate many items to increase the potential of the amulet they give you.

One shops here will give you coin for your items. No refunds.

The final vendor in the bazaar will upgrade your amulets. If you find any amulet that offers no benefits, they will upgrade it for you for free and let you pick what upgrade it gets. Any amulet that has just one benefit, they will charge you to have it upgraded and you can choose between increasing the benefit it already gives or randomly add a new one.

Dungeon Entrance

To the east of town, north of the bazaar and south of the forge, lies the entrance to the dungeon. Head into the cave in the ground to fight and explore your way into its depths. See the Dungeon Guide to learn more about that.

The people around the dungeon will explain what different classes you can be. Speak to each to learn more about them.

One person here will change your class for you if you ask. You cannot change your class if you have a levelup pending, and if you do not, you will lose some progress on your current level up.

Forge

In the northeast of the town is a forge where you can buy equipment with your coin.

The forge sells one weapon, one shield and one suit of armor. Their shop resets each run. They have a way of resetting items in their shop with upgraded items as well. See the section on relics to learn more about that.
